You guys are awesome! In just two months since spn_littlebro went live, we have over 400 fic recs celebrating hurt!Sam and hurt!Jared! Can we get to 500 before new episodes air? Sure we can! C'mon... make a rec and tell your friends, too! You don't have to be a member of the community to post a rec comment to our theme posts!

Seeing all the great fics in this year's summer_sam_love Sam-focused fic exchange, and the comment!fic meme underway at ohsam, not to mention all the other fic challenges about to go live, reminds me -- if you're posting a completed hurt!Sam or hurt!Jared fic that's at least 1K in length, please do pimp yourself! We want your self-recs, too! Just comment to the appropriate theme post with the template so our readers will know - and it will end up in our Library of Hurt on delicious.com, too! Remember, recs for completed ★ hurt!Sam or hurt!Jared ★ fic over 1000 words are welcome in any of our themes at any time.

Here's a handful of things your spn_littlebro team is raving about right now. (And if you like them as much as we do, don't forget to comment to the person who created it!)

Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?

• vail_kagami hopes you're all reading the latest fic by debbiel66 and says, "She (just) posted the next installment of her resurrected!John 'verse, which I adore. John Winchester is brought back to life during season six to a world he doesn't quite understand and sons he doesn't know anymore. Sam's wall is still standing, but it's fragile and Dean is extremely protective of his brother, even going against his father in order to keep Sam safe from potential triggers. The 'verse is told from John's point of view and portrays an interesting shift in the dynamics between those three, due to all the things John doesn't know and had no part in." Each of the installments (4 so far) is SPN gen, 5-10K.
• Another rec from vail_kagami is the Three Kings 'verse by cosmic_medusa. vail_kagami says "It's an AU in which Cas is a doctor and in a relationship with Dean, who's a mechanic, and together they take care of Dean's little brother Sam who became a drug addict after a series of terrible tragedies in his already difficult life and is now struggling to put his past behind him. The recovery from his addiction is incredibly well described and the bond between the three main characters is alternately heartwarming and heartbreaking, but mostly the first."
• cherry916 has several new fics to highlight:
  
  • Going Under by letsgetstarted is a 2011 spn_j2_bigbang entry, J2AU, NC17, about 29K. Cherry says: "It's actually a really interesting ghost-busters type thing, where Chris, Steve and Jensen banish spirits of sorts - sorta like Dean and Sam but with less guns and muscle power. The thing is Jared is being haunted by a ghost from his past and the hurt Jared in this (beaten, cuts, bruises, choked) is all woobly, and Jensen's comfort and care for him is adorable."
  • Changes New Beginnings by Vonnie836 on ff.net is an SPN gen WIP that Cherry says is being updated regularly. She adds, "This is a beautifully well-written De-aged fic that is permanent! And Dean finds himself being a father to Sammy rather than a brother. It's filled with so many adorable moments between the father and newfound son, and baby Sammy sure knows how to get into trouble."
  • From the summer_sam_love 2011 fic exchange, Cherry wants to point out Sam and Dean and a Mummy Makes Three by moviegeek03. Cherry says, "Now, since moviegeek is one of my dearest friends, I beta'd it for her and loved every minute of the Mummy she describes. She has a way with making every story into an episode instantly. Plus she used my idea as a title which is a total rip off from Scooby Doo and it made me giggle - lol!" SPN gen. PG13, 5-10K.

• spn_reversebang is open for sign-ups now, too! Not limited to h/c at all, but another golden opportunity to create some hurt!Sam visuals and have a story written to match! Check it out!


• Do you have a favorite film that would be an awesome vehicle for hurt!Sam or hurt!Jared? spn_cinema is an SPN/RPF fanwork challenge, where films serve as the basis of fic, art and audio-based fanworks, and it's now open for a new round. Check out the FAQ and other useful posts there ASAP. Create something that features bruised/bloody/broken Sam or Jared, and then rec yourself in our theme posts!

Featured Fic Recs:

• mlebayre has a golden oldie to share from kroki_refur, called Childish Things. It's SPN gen, about 4K, and the summary says: Dean's little brother is suddenly kinda... little.. mlebayre says "It's cool and I still remember it years later!"


• harrigan says "in honor of the fic!meme underway at ohsam and the fic exchange being posted at summer_sam_love, I'm going to highlight an author I just discovered recently who has written gems in both challenges. My featured author this issue is radiumgirl (and you can bet I'll be going back to see what else she's done that I may have missed)."
  • On a Clear Day You Can See for Miles: Prompt: Set after 6.22. Sam’s having a mental breakdown after reuniting with his soul fragments; he doesn’t know what is real and what isn’t anymore. He manages to escape from Dean’s and Bobby’s watch one night and into Crowley’s grasps, who uses Sam’s instability and friendship with Cas as a way to punish him for grabbing all of Purgatory’s souls for himself. He tortures Sam in Alastair fashion (bonus points if you make Crowley make Alastair look like Mother Theresa). In Sam’s broken mind, he doesn’t know if this real or just some horribly vivid nightmare of Hell. It's told in second person narrative (Cas!POV) which is very tricky to pull off, but it's the perfect choice in this talented writer's hands. SPN gen, PG13, 6-7K - and don't miss the corresponding art rec, below!
  • The Other Brother Prompt: Sam and Adam are pulled from the cage at the same time. Sam is not right, and Adam, stuck as his caretaker, is not pleased (the reason for Adam not being the same kind of drooling mess is up to the author). Basically, Adam really really doesn't want to care and holds onto his resentment for dear life, but Sam is all psychotic and hopeless so it's kind of hard. Cue grudging compassion and Adam dragging Sam around the country, hitchhiking with truckers and stuff while trying to keep Sam's lunacy on the down-low, in search of anyone else who wants to take him, anyone at all. When he finally gets his chance to be rid of Sam for good and for keeps, he barely has one foot out the door before he notices Dean/Bobby/the psychiatric nurse/whoever trying to calm Sam down and doing it all wrong. .. Breaking up is so hard to do. This is another brilliant broken!Sam, SPN gen, under 5K, but this one is AU. Her Adam perspective is delightfully cranky and yet thoroughly engaging, too.

Other Media:

• art: summer_sam_love includes art as well as fic this year, and harrigan was completely blown away by the images for On a Clear Day. The art is by quickreaver and it is truly amazing - Sam is so broken, yet there is hope conveyed by the way the light falls across him. The detail is incredible.


• music videos: ash48 says "You either don't watch vids or are living under a fandom rock to not know how awesome Loki is. Her skill is amazing, as is her vision. In Out of Tune by secretlytodream (aka Loki) she tells a story that features a hurt and hospitalised Sam. It also features very angsty boys. Powerful stuff."


• audiobook/podfic: ash48 has one of these to rec, too! Care and Feeding (as mp3) by foolsgame and read by cookiemom6067. It's also available here as audiobook/m4b. Ash says it's nicely read, and "I thought when I downloaded this podfic I was simply in for some cute Sam being turned into a cat. Sure... it IS cute (and adorable!) but there's so much more. I didn't expect the hurt!kitty!Sam and tender!Dean. Nor the developing tenderness between the boys. It's PG so it's very (very) mild wincest." Season 1, so bonus John, too!


• eBooks, etc.: Usually, we rec the long fics that are perfect for indulging in on your eReader of choice, but this time, harrigan is going to rec a collection of shorter fics available to download - the Fusion!verse series by ratherastory, which can be obtained in MOBI, EPUB, PDF or HTML formats. There are about 15 installments so far, but each can be read independently, although reading the first one first is highly recommended! This all started from a hurt!Dean prompt (his knee is permanently fused after a dire injury) but as the author says, it "turned into a Sam-comes-back-from-hell story, and then it kind of became a curtain!fic, and then it became a 'verse." Sam is so wonderfully broken, too! Our reccer (harrigan) says, "I ♥ fic where injuries have consequences, and what a fantastic journey it is when the consequences mean that it's a struggle to care for the brother who needs your help. Run, don't walk, to wallow in this amazing 'verse!" SPN gen, most of the chapters are under 5K, but together it's close to 50K - and hopefully more to come!

What Else? mlebayre says that Neon Rainbow Press "is up and running again and looking for fics for both their never been on the web and previously posted to the web fanzines. They sent a note out to people who'd previously had fics in their zines asking that we let anyone know who'd might be interested they're taking submissions again." Check out their link! And do you have a fanzine to recommend that's filled with good Sam h/c? If so, please tell us all about it in the comments. (Specific issue, ordering info, etc. is welcome of course, too.)

How Are We Doing? You heard that we're closing in on 500 fic recs, right? Did you know that we also have almost 200 types of hurt! That is... ☆ AMAZING ☆ ! Depression is leading the pack, but there are plenty of broken.limbs, blood.loss, concussion, kidnapped and tortured stories, too. And some surprises: ageusia and anosmia? Depleted.nanocytes?
