reggie11. She's an avid hurt!Sam reader (and writer) and we're sure you'll love her recs.

It's incredible to think that we have hit our 1000th recs in our theme posts!. That's a lot of hurt!Sam and hurt!Jared to enjoy. \o/

And can you believe we actually had some REAL hurt!Jared at the last con? Of course, I'm not happy that our poor Jared actually got hurt (wresting Osric no less), but surely it made for some h/c fan fic?! (I know of one- check out the rec below).

Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?

ash48 was thrilled to discover that callistosh65 was inspired to write some hurt!Jared h/c after the incident at JIB5 convention, Meanwhile Down in the Green Room. Summary a little bit of hurt, a little bit of comfort, it's Jared on pain meds and Jensen on a schedule. ash48 says it's a delightful mix of hurt, comfort and schmoop.

If you like truly creepy stories than be sure to check out Fly by Askance. Summary: Sam wakes up in an unfamiliar room with Dean and finds that he can't remember anything past the moment when those angels began to fall from Heaven. He has a sneaking suspicion that something is not quite right. ash48 doesn't want to give too much away because part of the joy of this story is not knowing what's happening. She does say "It's set post S8 and features a sick Sam who is still suffering after the trials." She also warns that it's not for the squeamish and be sure to check the warnings.

harrigan recommends you check out Lunatic by scullspeare. This outsider POV fic is summarised as: In the midst of a snowstorm, a stranger runs into an injured and hypothermic Sam. His memory is spotty; he knows that a hunt went sideways and that Dean's in trouble-he just doesn't know where he is. It's gen and harrigan says "Hypothermia and cave-in trauma FTW! Not to mention, pie! I love a good Outsider POV, and this was a perfect example. He was a good, solid, likable character, and it's nice to occasionally have the regular folks who knew nothing about the supernatural before come to appreciate and take care of the boys. It's especially satisfying to see the guys worried about each other and putting the other's welfare ahead of their own. I miss that!" It also features hurt!Dean for those who like both of boys getting hurt.

harrigan also enjoyed On Shaky Ground by zubeneschamali. The summary should be enough to have you dashing over there! Prince Jensen Ackles is fleeing his home solar system when he's captured by the one man he wants most to avoid. He doesn’t trust Prince Padalecki's sympathetic looks and kind words, and he soon finds out that he was right not to. But actions speak louder than words, and Jensen has to decide whether he can trust his life—and his heart—to the man he's been afraid of for so long. Jared has been contracted to wed Prince Ackles for years. This is a J2 AU fic and harrigan says " Space! And secrets, and earthquakes, and rescuing people, and sniffle-inducing sacrifices, and best of all --- it's a zuben_fic!". This is written for the wonderful challenge spn_meanttobe.

If you love gratuitous h/c as much as ayane42 does then be sure to check out In Case of Emergency by deanssam. She says, "I love stories with Sam having epilepsy!! And this one delivers!! Weepy Sam and loving Dean. I can't wait to read more." It's part of a series and has been updated regularly.

cherry916 has discovered a gem from the wonderful challenge spn_cinema. Someone To Save You by firesign10 is summarised as: Jensen is a ruthless businessman who specializes in destroying companies, and knows that everything--and everyone--can be bought. Jared is the hot, feisty hooker he meets one night on Hollywood Boulevard who piques Jensen's interest. One night's solicitation turns into a 24/7 gig, with Jared accompanying Jensen to various meetings and social functions in addition to providing sex during Jensen's week-long stay. By the end of the week, though, they're both unsure about what their next choices should be. Does that sound familiar? That's because it's a J2 retelling of the film Pretty Woman. cherry916 says, "this puts a refreshing twist on an old tale. The lust between them soon turns to love, and becomes very real for Jensen when he realizes he can't let Jared go. It's a nice juicy read that will leave you craving more.

Another J2 fic that has emerged from the spn_cinema is one that our newest mod, reggie11, highly recommends. It's Sweet November by obsidianromance and is summarised as: Jensen is a workaholic who isn't sure what to do with his life aside from blindly forge ahead with his plan to reach the top of the advertising world. Jared is a free spirit who's made it his job to live each day like it's his last. When the two of them collide, it's Jared who thinks he can teach Jensen a thing or two about the beauty of life. Funny thing is, Jensen's got some lessons of his own. Only, Jared's not good at learning lessons and the more he lets Jensen in, the more he realizes it's getting difficult to hide a secret that could cause everything to crumble underneath them.. reggie11 says, "This fic has a bit of everything. The first half is deliciously funny and Jared will bring an enormous smile to your face, but the second half is filled with angst and lots of Jared whump when it's revealed there is much more to Jared then the free spirit he appears to be, and all throughout there is delicious romance. It's a wonderful retelling of the movie with the same name."

reggie11 discovered a wonderful 9.23 coda The Mad Man With Closed Eyes by crimsonepitaph. It deals with the events in the finale and reggie11 says, "The way this is written is almost poetic. Sam's pain, grief and rage just leap off the page".

Featured Fic Recs:

If you're looking for something that packs a punch at the end, then be sure to check out The Importance of Being Sam by bettenoire. ayane42 loved it and says "This is a look into the mind of wee Sam with a 'gotcha' at the end that surprised me!!". Summary: Sam Winchester knew what was important and what wasn't. After all, it had been drilled into him all his life.

ayane42 is also raving about dragonflybeach's Shattered. Summary: Sam didn't look for Dean the year they were apart. He didn't know he was supposed to. AU version of the events of the year between Season 7 and Season 8. It features the pairing of Sam/Jody and deals with depression, PTSD and grief. ayane42 says, "This is exactly what should have happened to Sam after Dean and Cas disappeared at the end of Season 7. The voices are perfect and it is so full of love and the feels!!! I just loved this!!"

Author faye_dartmouth has written many hurt!Sam fics. This month cherry916 recommends one she wrote in 2006 called Blowout. Summary: Dean learns how NOT to use a tire iron. This gen fic features Sam with concussion and cherry916 says, "This is a really interesting piece on Sam and Dean's relationship in early season 1. Faye has a way with writing Dean as being understanding and analyzing Sam's motivations, which enlightens readers as well. The best part is for all it's duration it features awesome hurt!Sam, so what's not to love?"

If you love really long gen fics (over 285,000 words!) then reggie11 recommends Faceless by reddawnrumble. Summary: When monsters become the pawns in a competition between humans and demons, Dean Winchester adopts a Faceless outcast named Sam who just might bring the broken Winchester family back together again. . She says "This is an absolutely incredible epic tale at just under 300,000 words. In this AU, demons and monsters are a part of everyday life and humans are way below demons on the food chain. Sam is taken by the Winchester family to participate in monster fights so they can earn enough money to survive. A family bond slowly develops but will it be enough to save Sam? It's a brutal but incredibly good story and a lot of SPN characters make appearances". reggie11 warns that Sam goes extremely dark side for a while and it also contains the death of a child.

art: "I want to wrap Sam in a giant hug every time I look at this" reggie11 says. She recommends you check out Sam Winchester by Vongue.

art: "Nothing is sweeter than a badass, bloody Sam laying down the law" says cherry916 about Clervescent's hurt!Sam drawing - You Don't Want To Fight Me. "Not only do you get a beautiful drawing of Sam all bloodied, but he's badass as well!"

music videos: secretlytodream has treated us to another fabulous fanvid. We Promised the World We'd Tame It condenses Sam and Dean's S9 story lines. ash48 says "it's intense and hits all the right notes for Sam and Dean. It also shows how similar their stories are, mirroring their loss of body control".

music videos: If you like lots and lots of main pain, reggie11 highly recommends you take a look at Run by Herebutnotremembered. Summary: Sam has a brain tumor, Dean doesn't want to lose him. reggie11 say it's "Incredibly moving and beautifully made AU video".
