Welcome to the spn_littlebro newsletter #1 for early June 2011





We love that you guys have started posting story links. Thank you! That's what we need to keep the library stocked! We want to keep 'em coming so we'll be promoting a theme each fortnight this summer while we wait for season 7. Stay tuned!

Fevered Ramblings:

This is a handful of things your spn_littlebro team is raving about right now:

Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?

• harrigan is holding her breath for the launch of this summer's spn_j2_bigbang. Opening day Monday June 6th promises an awesome new hurt!Sam fic! No link yet, but the author's LJ will take you there once it's posted. It's part of her famous Sparta!verse (teen!Sam), although it will stand alone. Over 20K with art! Squee! To Fight in the Shade by lovesrain44. SPN gen, probably PG13.


• ash48 is enjoying the start of a new 3 part fic by authoressnebula called On Our Own. She says, "Sam is 15 and decides the boys should be separated. Ack! Not possible. My heart has been breaking for the boys. *sniff* (Gen, PG-13)".


• ash48 is also flailing about A Monster By Any Other Name - Part Two, now in progress, by lavinialavender and brosedshield. ash48 reports that "Part Two of this engrossing story is starting to be posted. I will warn that this will not be everybody's cuppa and it's not for the faint hearted. At times I've had to stop reading because it's so painful in its realism. But it's also incredibly engaging. The authors have created a very real landscape. The fact that they promise a happy ending keeps me going. :) If you haven't read Part One I recommended it. But READ THE WARNINGS. It's dark!" (Part 1 is a multi-chapter story that is completed. Part 2 is a WIP that is updated every Friday.)


• summer_sam_love participants could be hurting Sam right now! Sign-ups for this fic exchange continue till June 11th. If you're willing to write a gen Sam fic, go sign up and leave a couple prompts of your own - preferably prompts for hurt!Sam !


• Running Hot: a multi-fandom Fever Fic commentfic meme isn't hurting Sam or Jared as much we'd like! And maybe that's because folks don't seem to be leaving prompts for fevered!Sam or fevered!Jared, though they would certainly be welcome there! (They already have at least 6 fills for fevered!Dean!) Go check it out and offer some prompts! There's no deadline.


• samdean_otp is sponsoring a... what else? SamDeanOTP mini-bang. SPN only, but slash or gen are welcome. Writer sign-ups end June 5th; artist sign-ups to follow. See here for details! You know you wanna write/illustrate some Dean comforting hurt!Sam, right?

Featured Fic Recs:

• harrigan recs Laid Low by Achilles by maygra. This was posted one month after the show premiered, guys! October 2005! And it hooked me on this fandom. It has a leg wound, fever, puking, hospital, stitches, but above all, Sam getting hurt in the line of duty, Dean taking care of him, and a killer ending, all in less than 5K words. A classic! SPN gen, PG


• cherry916 offers this fic for your reading pleasure: "The story isn't new new but it's actually my first ever teaming with beckalooby on a Jared/Jensen story: You're The Light In My Stormy Seas. I'm not being biased or anything I mainly beta'd and wrote certain scenes but this was her dream and her goal to write this. And it really turned out awesome in my opinion. From the art to the setup I was so proud of her. Also we are writing a sequel and when it's done I'll be sure to let you all know." Jared/Jensen RPS AU, NC17.


• ash48 has another oldie-but-a-goodie to rec: Dead End by Route67. "This is a little known story, tucked away in ff.net land. It's by no means perfect but it has a great mix of mystery, peril, tension and brotherly love. One of those easy Sunday afternoon reads. :)" It's SPN gen, set in season 1, over 20K.


• varkelton has a blast from the past to rec: False Comforts by maygra. It's SPN AU: Sam/Dean slash, NC-17. Type of hurt: dark fiction and containing both violence and sexual violence - Warnings for violence, rape, non-con, and emotional and physical manipulation. Why is she rec'ing this story? "Because I can't not rec it. This is the story that got me into fandom, and it's based on one of the best episodes of the entire series, Skin, and while there were many stories written around this episode, I think this one is the absolute best."


• varkelton also recs a pair of SPN fics by kroki_refur: Passenger (a very dark possessed!Dean one-shot) and its 80K sequel With Spit and a Prayer. Type of hurt: Rape, incest, suicide. Angst out the wazoo. Why is she rec'ing this story? "Because this remains one of my favorite hurt!Sam fics of all time. She doesn't skimp at all on the comfort and on how damaged both Sam and Dean would be if Dean was forced to hurt his brother."

Other Media:

• audiobook/podfic: This month harrigan is downloading pre-series Sam-with-wings!fic to listen to! This 'verse has several stories from under 1K to around 5K. The podfics are a set of 3 of them, that run just under 90 mins total. I ♥ these stories, and I ♥ other fic this reader has narrated, so I can't wait to wallow in this: wing!fic 'verse, written by kellifer_fic and read by ratherastory here. SPN gen, PG13.


• eBooks, etc. You can't go wrong with fleshflutter for long, plotty, action J2 AU fic. Which means you'll want to read it on the go. harrigan recs Someone You Might Have Been: a J2 AU in which Jared is a secret agent and Jensen is his handler/support tech. With bonus Jared!bashing, of course. RPS J2 AU, NC17. And it's 100-200K words long! Perfect for your summer vacation reading on the beach!


• art: cherry916 says SPN-303-puppy-lose-a-shoe by sau1412 "is the most cutest drawing of the scene from Bad Day At Black Rock but the catch is she drew Sammy as a puppy! ^^ It's the cutest plus you see Dean trying not to hug his brother."


• art: ash48 recs Fan Art: The Great Wall of Sam. She says: "I love anything petite_madame produces. I particularly love the way this piece shows what the crumbling of the wall could look like for Sam. It's creepy, heartbreaking and you can see Sam's pain and despair in his eyes. (Gore, PG13)"


• art: mlebayre would like to remind everyone that the sign-up period for artists for spn_gen_bigbang is currently open (closes in July). There's bound to be some hurt!Sam fic being written (we hope!), and this fandom needs more hurt!Sam art! So if you're an artist, consider signing up here and giving us some bloody or bruised Sam to wallow in!

Also "Laid Low by Achilles" is one of the first SPN fics I read--probably 3-4 years after it was posted--and it's still one of my favorites. Absolutely perfect h/c.
