Remember, every couple weeks we're putting out the call for recs in a particular theme, and the theme for this fortnight is: Injury! So don't forget to come here! to share your favorite hurt!Sam or hurt!Jared fics that deal with broken limbs, stab wounds, shootings, blindness, deafness, blood loss, internal injury, permanent injury, strangulation, concussion, burns, dislocation, drowning, paralysis, catatonic, shock, chronic pain, clawed, etc. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Maybe you've found a new type of injury we all should read?) As always, recs (and self-recs) are still welcome in any theme at any time.

Here's a handful of things your spn_littlebro team is raving about right now:

Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?

• ash48 is "looking forward to the fills at abused_sammy. This is their second Prompt Fest. There's 32 wonderful prompts so if you haven't snapped one up head over there and do so! So many delicious hurt!Sammy and hurt!Jared prompts... \o/"


• cherry916 reports that she and captainlon are "having our very own Hurt Sam Week where we post pictures of our favorite Hurt Sam moments and talk about them..." Check them out here and here. They are an ongoing feature now!


• cherry916 also raves about The Idle Job by kelleigh. "It's a seriously amazing read of a AU version of what would happen if the US didn't become the great country it is today. A Fascinating portrayal of this new world and how it came to be, not to mention Texas Ranger Jensen Ackles and Doctor Jared with Jensen's trusty sidekick Mo. The art is amazing and gives an awesome level of detail - not to mention Protective Jensen! He becomes like a bear when his man is threatened in this. I stayed up 3 hours finishing it and I don't regret it." This is a new fic for the 2011 spn_j2_bigbang which means it's more than 20K (actually 50K+!) and has a soundtrack and amazing art by amindaya to go with it. RPS Jared/Jensen, NC17. Available in PDF, MOBI and EPUB, too!


• dontknowmyname is enjoying a WIP by moviegeek03 called All is Fine summarized thusly: "Teen!Chesters. While Dean is away on a hunt with Caleb there is no buffer between Sam and John. To make it worse, Sam is having a hard time at school with bullies. It is getting harder and harder to hide from his dad and big brother, and Sam does not want to appear weak. But what will happen when his secret is found out? How does he cope with both his dad and his big brother finding out everything?" dontknowmyname says "I'm a sucker for a good preseries fic, especially a teen!chester one with some positive John and Sam interaction. I love how this author is writing John."


• harrigan says if you'd like gen fic where Sam has a permanent leg disability, there's a whole 'verse! by rainylemons to indulge in. Happily, it also came up in the new Injury recs, so you can find all the details here. Read - enjoy - and then comment to the author pleading for more!


• rainyrocket offers a couple fics she says are well worth investigating. The first is Darkness Deep Within You, a WIP by aythia: Just because Jared offered himself up doesn't mean he’ll go down without a fight. The problem is that Jensen likes it when they fight because it makes it that much more delicious when they break. RPS J2AU, NC17 (including the story banner). The second is the recently completed Plaything (The Freak on His Leash) by ladycrystal_c: He’s the only one who gets to call him that, and when he stops, Sam feel like he’s withering inside. Lucifer has risen and Ruby has run away, but rogue angels and a legion of demons are still the least of his worries. He just wants his brother back; because there is nothing in the world like being Dean’s “Sammy”. Sam/Dean, NC17 - note the warnings and kinks for more details.


• vail_kagami suggests you take a look at Haven by emmram, a reaction fic to episode 6.22. "The newest fic of a very awesome author. Here we have Sam sacrificing himself for a Castiel who once again means well but keeps repeating the same mistakes that got Sam into that position in the first place. It's absolutely heartbreaking because even when things seem alright, they really, really aren't." It's SPN gen, but heed the warnings.


• sabriel_mini is a new Sam/Gabriel comm with a big bang open for writer sign-ups that will close on June 17th. Here's hoping for some hurt!Sam (fic and art) there!


• j2_kane_bigbang is another new big bang challenge. It's not clear if writer sign-ups have closed or not, but certainly artists are still welcome to sign up. Keep your eyes posted for potential hurt!Jared fic and art here!


• A new round of hc_bingo has begun! Sign up before the end of 2011 to participate... or just sit back and wallow in the contributions of those who do!

Featured Fic Recs:

• ash48 recommends Desperate Times by laughandlove on ff.net. The summary reads: "After an argument and a trip to the bar on Dean's part, Sam's taken hostage from the motel. It could be a life and death situation for the youngest Winchester" and the reccer says "Oh man! My guilty pleasures are on show for all. (Not that it's any big secret...) The thing I particularly like about this one is what the kidnappers want from Dean." It's SPN gen, PG13.


• harrigan says if you're looking for a new type-of-hurt, one that hasn't been done before, "depleted nanocytes" may be just the ticket! Keepsake by indysaur is RPS Jared/Jensen slash (rated R) based loosely on - really! - Disney/Pixar's Wall-E. This story really fills my craving for self-sacrifice, choosing/risking hurt for all the right reasons. This fic is just under 20K and the writing style suits the story exactly right: every word is perfect.

Other Media:

• music videos: ash48 wants everyone to know that Consequences by MulkEntertainment "is INCREDIBLE! It's a Fanfic Vid. There are 7 chapters so far. It features hurt!Sam and a very angsty Dean trying to find a cure for him. The way the editor has selected dialogue from the last 6 season blows me away. The link is to chapter one. Other links are on her profile or will appear after the first chapter finishes. Very impressive."


• audiobook/podfic: harrigan doesn't read a lot of SPN slash, but some works are just so awesome, they can't be denied. Case in point: We Were Twenty written by elohvee and read by dramaqueen469. "I'm a total sucker for curtain!fic orthopedic trauma/permanent injury that leads to retirement from hunting (maybe?)... It's 2 hours and 38 minutes and if you react to it as I did, it's not safe to listen to while driving a car." SPN slash Sam/Dean, NC17. (Also, see the rainylemons mention above for another podfic!)

• art: cherry916 has found another awesome image: Sam Winchester by reinrassic-the-5th. You would think by clicking on this link you'll get just Sammy? Well that's true but this is an awesome artwork depicting the three Sam's from the finale: Hell!Sam, Soulless!Sam and regular Sam. We really love the turnabout we see with each.

I'm getting the same error as glimmerella. But since I'm already commenting, I was going to choose 'Other' and I would have to say Emotional|Mental hurts are the ones I enjoy reading about the most as they can be the most complicated and involved when trying to describe, manage and/or deal with. It can also become humorous when Dean's feeling particularly emotionally constipated and having to deal with Sam's frustration.
